Women Drivers vs. Men Drivers- Who is better?
posted on

Let’s face it- this is an age-old question spurning debates between boyfriends, girlfriends, and spouses since the dawn of the automobile. So deeply based in stereotypes that the “bad woman driver” cliché was used to sell everything from auto-body repair, cars, to perks at gas stations until well into the 1970s. However, setting aside old notions and poorly misguided judgments- a new study in the UK has a definitive answer to the question: “Who is a better driver? Men or Women?”
The facts:
•
In 2011 there were over 1.6 million driving tests administered in the UK. Men passed 383K, women only passed 360K. However, in the study, it was shown that there are less female drivers in the UK than males.
•
2500 drivers were analyzed while parking-Women were better at parking overall than their male counterparts. Women excelled in the speed at which they found a parking space, the end positioning of the vehicle, as well as taking slightly longer to park the vehicle, five seconds longer on average, relating in a higher success rate.
•
Accidents per 100 million miles driven were studied: Men were in over twice as many car accidents than females, but drove significantly more miles. In 1.3 trillion miles logged, men had over 33 thousand accidents. For females this number was more than halved down to 14 thousand accidents, but driving 847 billion miles. These numbers boil down to Men having 2.5 accidents per million miles driven, and females only clocking in at 1.7 per million.
The verdict?
The Ladies have it! Congratulations women! The old stereotype has been proven FALSE! Women are better drivers than men, according to the study. As it appears, women are more attentive at the wheel, take longer doing driving maneuvers, and overall have fewer accidents than men.
So, even though women drive statistically less than men, maybe it’s time that the ladies take the keys a few more time a week, and show the guys how it’s done?
